HIGHER ALAMEDA CORRIDOR SURCHARGES

HIGHER ALAMEDA CORRIDOR SURCHARGES

The transpacific container shipping lines’ higher Alameda corridor surcharges for cargoes moving ports of southern California are expected to apply to shippers from about mid-January.

The higher surcharges follow the introduction on Jan. 1 of increases in the user fees charged by the Alameda corridor to the Union Pacific and BNSF railroads. UP will charge $16 per 20-foot, $31 per 40-foot, and $35 per 45-foot container to shipping lines that use the Alameda corridor. BNSF will invoice slightly different amounts: $16 per 20-foot container, $32 per 40-foot box, or $36 per 45-foot-long container.

The eastbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement and Westbound Transpacific Stabilization Agreement have adopted guidelines for Alameda corridor charges of $16 per 20-foot container, $31 per 40-foot box, or $35 per 45-foot-long container. The Alameda corridor charges are a pass-through of user fees charges by railroads to shipping lines.
