Hill picked to head truck safety agency

The White House said Tuesday that President Bush will nominate John H. Hill to be administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Hill serves as assistant administrator and chief safety officer for the Department of Transportation agency. He previously served as commander of commercial vehicle enforcement for the Indiana State Police.

Also Tuesday, David H. Hugel was named as deputy administrator for FMCSA. Hugel, who has spent the last three years as administrator of the Maryland Division of Motor Vehicles, will also serve as acting administrator until Hill is confirmed by the Senate to replace Annette Sandberg, who recently left the agency’s top post.

Hugel will join the agency on May 30, the DOT said.
