Hong Kong International Airport attributed the 10.1 percent year-over-year boost in cargo volumes during the month primarily to an increase in exports.
Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) increased cargo volumes 10.1 percent year-over-year in August to 412,000 metric tons, the airport said Sunday.
The increase was primarily fueled by a boost in exports, which rose 12 percent from August 2016.
“Amongst the key trading regions, Europe and Southeast Asia increased the most significantly,” HKIA said.
Overall, for the first eight months of 2017, HKIA handled 3.15 million metric tons of cargo, an 11.1 percent increase from the corresponding 2016 period.
HKIA has been ranked the busiest airport for international air cargo since 1996. The airport is equipped with four air cargo terminals adjacent to the cargo apron with 43 freighter parking stands.
