Holiday to affect U.S.-Mexico commercial traffic

The Zisser Group issued a trade alert Tuesday about an interruption of normal service at the U.S.-Mexico border crossing at Otay Mesa due to a Mexican holiday on March 21 (Benito Juarez Day).

Zisser said in a release that after mutual consultation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Otay Mesa and the Administraci'n General de Aduanas de Tijuana will offer limited hours of operation for commercial traffic on the holiday.

Only empties, perishables and Free and Secure Trade (FAST) shipments will be allowed into the United States according to the following schedule: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for perishables and FAST shipments, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for empties. Empties transiting from the United States to Mexico will be allowed from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., but no vehicles with any kind of merchandise will be allowed during the day.

On Monday and Wednesday, March 21 and 23, the port will extend service for one hour in the evening, if traffic warrants.
