Hong Kong airport cuts landing, parking fees
The Hong Kong government has moved to stabilize the battered aviation industry and preserve its status as an air hub by reducing landing and parking charges.
Hong Kong will lower both of its charges by 10 percent through 2009, as well as deferring half of the rental payment on offices and ground facilities through the rest of the year.
The move was made at the behest of the Board of the Airline Representatives in Hong Kong, which feared that slowing demand through Hong Kong would jeopardize its standing as a regional aviation hub.
'It is essential for airlines and the airport to work closely together, especially in these challenging times, to underpin the competitiveness of the Hong Kong aviation hub,' said Tony Tyler, Cathay Pacific chief executive officer, in a statement.
