HONG KONG TO GROW AS AN ENTRY POINT FOR CHINA
Hong Kong Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa has told the APEC CEO Summit in Los Cabos, Mexico, that Hong Kong will continue to be “a very important international financial center for the whole of China,” as a well as a logistics gateway to the mainland.
“There are many bridges between the rest of the world and mainland China,” Tung said, yet Hong Kong retains “our uniqueness under ‘One Country, Two Systems.’
“China has 180 million people on the mainland that could be considered a rising middle class,” he explained.
Tung said the recently concluded Air Services Agreement between Hong Kong and the United States will liberalize Hong Kong’s air cargo and passenger service markets by introducing more competition and lowering costs.
