Horizon Lines containership helps stranded sail boat
A containership operated by Horizon Lines between the United States and Puerto Rico, the “Horizon Hawaii,” Aug. 6 came to the rescue of a sail boat with damaged sails and no diesel fuel.
The sailboat “Kokomo Cat,” with a crew of four people, had placed a distress call to the U.S. Coast Guard when it became stranded 40 nautical miles north of the North West Coast of Puerto Rico.
Responding to a Coast Guard request to help locate the stranded boat, the “Horizon Hawaii's” crew spotted it and maneuvered alongside to help refuel the sailboat, which was then able to make way under its own power. The “Horizon Hawaii” then resumed its voyage to the Port of Jacksonville, Fla.
