Houston holds security grants briefing
The Port of Houston Authority Friday hosted a port security grants briefing and question-and-answer session for managers of private sector port facilities along the Houston ship channel.
In attendance were Congressman Gene Green, Ken Concepcion, manager of the Department of Homeland Security grant program, Richard Kaser, U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the port, PHA chairman Jim Edmonds, PHA Executive Director Tom Kornegay and about 100 representatives from private port facilities operators.
“The meeting focused on guiding the attendees through the history and future of the federal port security funding programs and the grant application process, ” the authority said in a statement.
The PHA has to date been awarded $16.7 million in federal port security grants as reimbursements to PHA for port security-related expenditures, the authority said.
