HUAL SHIP GROUNDED IN TOKYO HARBOR
The “HUAL Europe,” a roll-on/roll-off vessel with a capacity of 6,000 cars, has grounded in Tokyo Bay.
The situation for the vessel is critical, the Hoegh group said. One member of the 24-strong crew is reported to be slightly injured, the engine room is flooded, and the vessel has strong listing.
The reason for the grounding is not yet known, the Scandinavian shipping group said. The vessel loaded cars in Yokohama, but was instructed to leave the port due to strong winds (typhoon) in the area.
A helicopter from the Japanese Coast Guard is now standby to evacuate the crew, but the weather is too bad for the operation to be carried out, Hoegh said.
