Hutchison moves into Egypt
Hong Kong-based mega-port operator Hutchison Port Holdings said Saturday it has entered into agreements with a consortium led by the Alexandria Port Authority for the construction, operation, and management of two terminals at Alexandria port and El Dekheila port, Egypt.
The two general cargo terminals will be converted to container handling operations. They will have a depth alongside of 12 meters. The Alexandria terminal will have a quay length of 380 meters, while the terminal’s quay in El Dekheila will be 560 meters long.
As part of the agreements, Alexandria International Container Terminals, a new joint venture company is being established between Hutchison and the Egyptian consortium.
The project will compete against the neighboring Suez Canal Container Terminal, operated by APM Terminals and local partners.
