HYUNDAI PLANS TRANS-SIBERIAN LINK, NEW SERVICES
Hyundai Merchant Marine is planning to launch a service using the trans-Siberian railway and to start services in niche liner markets as part of an expansion of its container transport business.
Hyundai plans to commence a new service between the Far East and Australia by the end of August. It also intends to initiate services in niche markets such as East India, the Mideast Gulf, Southeast Asia and Southwest Asia.
“Plans are also underway to activate the cargo transportation business in Russia… through connections with the trans-Russia railway and the Busan-Vostochny service routes,” a spokesman for Hyundai said.
The Korean shipping group aims to carry 1.65 million TEUs this year, 8.9 percent more than last year.
