IATA reports 2.8% air freight growth in August
Geneva-based International Air Transport Association said today that growth in worldwide air freight traffic remained below trend in August, with a 2.8 percent year-on-year increase in freight-ton kilometers.
The small increase in August brought the average growth in worldwide traffic after eight months to 3.6 percent.
In August, air traffic in North America declined 0.8 percent, when measured in freight-ton kilometers. For the year-to-date, growth in freight traffic in North America averaged 1.1 percent.
Middle Eastern carriers posted a robust 15.6 percent month-on-month growth compared with the same month last year, largely due to regional trade induced by the strength of oil revenues, IATA said.
