ICE delivers 215 computers to Colombia Customs
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has delivered 215 computers and other equipment to Colombia’s Customs Service to combat trade-based money laundering and other financial crimes.
Colombia Customs will create a Trade Transparency Unit to meet the objectives of Plan Colombia, a U.S.-funded campaign to help the Colombian government fight terrorism, drug trafficking, contraband smuggling, tax evasion and other crimes. The Colombian government has received help from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and State and Treasury departments for this effort.
ICE and Colombia Customs are developing a joint database to exchange trade and financial information. Both agencies credit the sharing of information for helping to target major money laundering operations in the United States and Colombia, including the notorious Black Market Peso Exchange.
