ICTSI venture to operate Okinawa terminal
Naha International Container Terminal, Inc. (NICTI), a joint venture involving Philippine-based International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and six stevedoring companies already operating in the Naha port, has obtained a 10-year lease to operate two terminals in Okinawa island port from the Naha Port Authority.
Okinawa is part of Japan and is located on the East China Sea and to the east of Chinese ports.
NICTI will operate Terminal 9, an international container terminal with a controlling depth of 14 meters (46 feet) and a berth length of 300 meters (984 feet); and Terminal 10, which is still under construction and will have a depth of 15 meters (49 feet) and berth length of 300 meters (984 feet).
Authorization for the project is being obtained from the office of the Japanese Prime Minister and NICTI is expected to start operating the terminals on Jan. 1, 2006.
