iGPS picks Schoeller Arca Systems to build plastic pallets
Intelligent Global Pooling Systems has contracted with Schoeller Arca Systems of the Netherlands to make “several million” plastic pallets.
iGPS, a newly formed plastic pallet pool operator, said the pallets will measure a standard 48 inch by 40 inch, and weigh less than 50 pounds apiece. Each pallet can hold up to 2,800 pounds and is “edge-rackable.”
“Our pallets are 100 percent recyclable and, because they are 30 percent lighter than pallets made of wood, could remove several billion pounds of non-value freight from the shipping and supply chain infrastructure, resulting in huge potential fuel savings,” said Bob Moore, chief executive officer of iGPS, in a statement.
Each plastic pallet in the iGPS pool is also equipped with radio frequency technology tags for tracking.
