ILA, Evergreen America conclude bargaining pact

The International Longshoremen’s Association and Evergreen America Corp. have reached a collective bargaining agreement covering four Evergreen port captains and a port engineer who voted 3-2 to join the ILA.

The accord was reached in the third week of talks that began after a month-long labor action taken against Evergreen by the ILA.

The new contract runs until Nov. 15, 2006, nearly four years from the time the port captains and engineer voted to join the ILA.

The union and carrier did not make other details available.

A statement from Evergreen America said both parties “were pleased with the spirit of cooperation that prevailed and were optimistic about long-term labor peace.”
