IMO names Sekimizu, Sainlos as division directors

The International Maritime Organization, based in London, has appointed Koji Sekimizu of Japan as director of the IMO’s maritime safety division and Jean-Claude Sainlos of France as director of the organization’s maritime environment division.

Sekimizu, previously director of the maritime environment division, fills the safety division position formerly held by Efthimios E. Mitropoulos of Greece, who became the IMO’s secretary-general at the beginning of 2004.

Sainlos previously had been Sekimizu’s senior deputy in the maritime environment division.

The IMO is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.
