INTERCONTAINER STARTS BETTEMBOURG-MILAN SHUTTLE

Intercontainer-Interfrigo, the European intermodal operator, is launching a shuttle service between the Luxembourg terminal of Bettembourg and Milan, in Italy.

Starting on June 10, the service will operate four times a week in both directions.

In Milan, containers, semi-trailers and “swap bodies” (European domestic containers) will be transhipped between road and rail.

Intercontainer-Interfrigo said that the shuttle has been designed for swap bodies and semi-trailers “to offer a swift and competitive alternative to road haulage and a means of avoiding the congestion on Alpine crossing routes.”

Intercontainer-Interfrigo said that it selected Bettembourg as the northern terminal because of its location in relation to the Luxembourg/Saar/Lorraine economic area. “It is also very close to the Luxembourg airport and therefore well placed to carry incoming airfreight consignments” overnight to Milan by rail, the company said.
