INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE WELCOME NEW WTO ROUND
The International Chamber of Commerce welcomed an agreement announced by the World Trade Organization on Wednesday to launch a new trade round.
The new liberalization negotiation round is a “badly needed boost to business confidence,” said the International Chamber of Commerce, which represents businesses.
Trade ministers from 142 countries of the WTO agreed on Wednesday to launch a new round of trade talks after a six-day meeting in Doha, Qatar.
“This is terrific news in light of the troubled world economy,” said Richard D. McCormick, president of the International Chamber of Commerce. “Developing countries especially need greater access to the markets of the industrialized world,” he added.
The new trade round is expected to take several years.
The WTO has also recently confirmed the accession of mainland China and Taiwan as full members.
