Is that ship sinking? No, it’s supposed to do that!
Shipping professionals were greeted with news Monday morning that heavy-lift shipping companies Dockwise and Sealift were merging. But out in New York Harbor, another drama was unfolding.
Well, at least in the minds of some drivers and joggers along the waterfront.
What they saw was a ship, the Dockwise Swan, taking on water, settling into the harbor.
According to WCBS television, some were startled enough to call 911 to report a sinking vessel.
But it was all planned. The Swan is a float-on/float-off vessel, and it was ballasting down to load dredging equipment and move it to another port.
