Isabella Shipping adds Costa Rica call to U.S. Gulf/Colombia loop

Isabella Shipping is adding a weekly call at Puerto Limon, Costa Rica, to its existing service between Port Freeport, Texas, and Turbo in Colombia.

The Port Freeport/Turbo service started in April with Isabella transporting Turbana Corp. bananas to the U.S. Gulf port from Turbo, then returning with export cargoes including paper rolls, linerboard and plastic resins. The new rotation inserts the Puerto Limon call on the northbound voyage from Turbo.

Isabella and Turbana are both subsidiaries of Colombian parent C.I. Union de Bananeros de Uraba, S.A. (Uniban), who signed a five-year agreement to call at Port Freeport last fall.

Fresh produce importers Dole Fresh Fruit Co. and Chiquita Brands Inc. both call at Port Freeport.
