ITC CONTINUES CASE AGAINST CANADIAN SOFTWOOD LUMBER

ITC CONTINUES CASE AGAINST CANADIAN SOFTWOOD LUMBER

The U.S. International Trade Commission has determined there is a “reasonable indication” that the U.S. lumber industry is being threatened by imports of soft lumber from Canada “that are allegedly subsidized and sold in the U.S. at less than fair (market) value.”

In so doing, the ITC cleared the way for the U.S. Department of Commerce to continue contervailing duty and antidumping investigations.    Its preliminary countervailing duty determination is due on or about June 26. Its preliminary antidumping determination is due on or about Sept. 10, the ITC said.

The issue was brought before the ITC by the Coalition for Fair Lumber Imports Executive Committee, Washington, D.C.; the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Portland, Ore.; and, the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union, Nashville, Tenn.
