Jamaica beefs up cement terminal security
Reacting to a cement shortage impacting the entire Caribbean region, Jamaica's new Minister of Industry and Commerce Karl Samuda said Wednesday the government has issued instructions to increase security at the shipping facilities of Caribbean Cement Company Ltd. in Rockfort.
'Shipment of cement leaving and arriving will be monitored to ensure that not only is Jamaica protected, but that we fulfill our obligations with respect to our regional partners in ensuring that there is no contamination or shipments or that any dangerous equipment or substance leaves our shores,' Samuda said.
Samuda is a member of the cabinet of new Jamaica Prime Minister Bruce Golding, who took office last month.
