Japan Airlines finalizes 60-plane contract order from Boeing

Boeing said Monday it has completed contracts with Japan Airlines (JAL) for 30 of the 787 “Dreamliner” and 30 of the 737-800 airplanes, in a deal worth $5.3 billion at list prices. JAL also has options for 20 more 787s and 10 more 737s, Boeing said.

Production of the 787 Dreamliner will begin in 2006. The aircraft is being designed as a long-range jet capable of carrying 200 to 300 people depending on the configuration that will consume 20 percent less fuel than jets in use today.
