Jaxport box volumes up 17 percent

The Florida port set a record for July as it moves forward with channel dredging project.

Jaxport handled nearly 97,250 TEUs in July, an increase of 17 percent from July 2017, the port announced Tuesday.
The deepening of the port’s shipping channel from 40 feet to 47 feet is well under way. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and dredging contractor Dutra began construction on the project in February and the project is expected to take a total of five to six years.
BlueWater Reporting shows the port is called by 26 liner services that also sail to regions outside North America: 11 that deploy fully cellular containerships; 11 that deploy roll-on/roll-off vessels or pure car/truck carriers; two that deploy barges; one that deploys multipurpose vessels; and one that deploys con-ro vessels.
