JONES TO RETIRE AS FEDEX CIO, CARTER NAMED AS SUCCESSOR

Dennis H. Jones, FedEx Corp.'s executive vice president, information technology and chief information officer, will retire at the end of 2000. He will be replaced by Robert B. Carter, senior vice president and chief technology officer.

Frederick W. Smith, chairman, president and chief executive of FedEx, credited Jones with 'placing us at the forefront of technological innovations and Internet business applications.

During Jones' 10 years as CIO, FedEx extended its leadership in the global technology industry, as his responsibilities covered all aspects of FedEx's technology business development, Internet-based information technology, electronic commerce initiatives and software development and design, including PowerShip, FedEx Ship and InterNetShip.

Carter has been responsible for technology strategy and developing customer-facing applications. He joined FedEx in 1993 and has more than 20 years of systems development and implementation experience. Before joining FedEx, he was GTE's director of client server development.
