“K” Line orders five 6,400-TEU ships

“K” Line orders five 6,400-TEU ships

   Japan’s Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. has ordered five 6,400-TEU containerships from its compatriot Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. No financial details were disclosed.

   The ships will have an overall length of 293 meters (961.3 feet), a width of 40 meters (131.2 feet), a draft of 12.5 meters (41 feet) and a service speed of 26 knots. “K” Line said the ships will be delivered by mid-2010 and will replace smaller vessels deployed on its east/west services.
