ôKö Line orders new LNG carrier from Kawasaki Shipbuilding
Japanese ocean carrier Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd. has contracted with Kawasaki Shipbuilding Corp. for a 143,000-cubic-meter, Moss-type LNG carrier. Kawasaki Shipbuilding will deliver the vessel in the fourth quarter of 2007.
This ship will be 'K' Line's first solely owned and operated LNG carrier, and will bring the company's LNG fleet to 32 vessels, including eight managed by the 'K' Line group. The vessel will sail under a 10-year time charter agreement negotiated with J&S Cheniere S.A.
J&S Cheniere (Switzerland) was incorporated in 2003 as a joint venture between J&S and Cheniere Energy Inc. (USA) for the purpose of trading liquefied natural gas worldwide.
