KLM CARGO, MARTINAIR IMPLEMENT SECURITY SURCHARGES

KLM CARGO, MARTINAIR IMPLEMENT SECURITY SURCHARGES

KLM Cargo and Martinair Cargo said Monday they will impose security surcharges in Europe of 0.15 euro (about 14 cents) per kilogram, effective Oct. 15.

Martinair will also impose a surcharge of 12 cents per kilogram for the rest of the world.

The surcharges are aimed at covering cost increases, including higher insurance premiums, additional security measures, and decreased schedule and route efficiency following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Schiphol-based Martinair also said it will implement a worldwide cargo security policy, in which all shipments must include a cargo security declaration.
