KUEHNE & NAGEL ACQUIRES U.K. FORWARDER SEABROOK & SMITH
The British arm of Kuehne & Nagel is acquiring Seabrook & Smith Ltd., a U.K. forwarding company, as part of a strategy to increase its presence in the wines and spirits industry.
The takeover includes the name, book of business and certain assets of Seabrook & Smith.
Based in Barking, Seabrook & Smith provides shipping and freight forwarding services to importers of wines, beers and spirits. It imports about 310 million bottles a year from around the world. The company employs about 50 people and has annual revenues of '24 million ($38 million).
Kuehne & Nagel said that it launched a wine logistics service last year in response to growing worldwide demand, in particular concerning New World wines.
