L-3 names executives in U.S., Europe

   L-3 Communications Security & Detection Systems Inc., a provider of X-ray screening technology for security applications, has filled five management positions in its U.S. and European operations.

   William J. Frain has been named senior vice president, following Allen Barber's recent promotion to president of the company. Frain was vice president and chief financial officer.

   James J. Cataldo has been named CFO. He had been vice president of finance and administration for L-3 Communications ESSO.

   Steven Williams has been named managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, based in L-3's office in Bracknell, U.K. Williams was general manager of the U.K. office of GE Infrastructure, Security, and Homeland Protection.

   Jay H. Payne has been named vice president of cargo. Payne was corporate vice president and operations manager for vehicle and cargo inspection systems at Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC).

   The company has named Robert A. Fleck vice president of customer service. Fleck has worked for AS&E and GE Medical Systems.
