L.L. BEAN TAPS AIRBORNE FOR HOME DELIVERY
L.L. Bean, the catalog clothing company, has hired Airborne Express to handle 8 percent of its 11 million annual package deliveries using the airborne@home parcel program.
Airborne operates its @home delivery service in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, which handles the final home delivery segment of Airborne parcel shipments once Airborne has delivered them to local post offices. Similar programs have been started by Emery Worldwide and so-called parcel consolidators, such as Paxis and CTC Distribution, to compete with United Parcel Service.
L.L. Bean joins National Fulfillment, Wal-Mart, Brooks Brothers and J Crew as airborne@home customers. Airborne will replace L.L. Bean’s use of USPS Standard B Service, also known as Parcel Post. L.L. Bean began testing airborne@home last summer.
