LanChile reports healthy March results
South American carrier LanChile said cargo traffic improved 14.2 percent in March to 182.6 million cargo revenue ton kilometers, but its cargo load factor decreased a half point to 69.3 percent because capacity increased 13.4 percent as the airline wet-leased more aircraft.
Revenue ton kilometers/miles can be a misleading performance measurement because it is hard to separate whether the gains came from more shipments or greater distances flown.
LanChile attributed the gains to improved southbound volume, strong export traffic out of Latin America and market share gains.
