LANCHILE TO CUT OPERATIONS BY 10%
Lan Chile S.A., Chile's largest passenger/cargo carrier, said it will cut its operations by about 10 percent in response to the current crisis in the airline industry.
The company, which is a member of the oneworld global alliance, said its scheduled cuts will mainly affect international passenger operations. Lan Chile is cutting some flights to Miami and operating its daily Santiago/New York flight with one stop rather than direct. Daily flights will continue from Chile to Miami, Los Angeles and New York.
The cuts will result in the company laying off 650 people or about 6.5 percent of its workforce.
