LANDRIEU LEADS CHARGE TO PUT IRAQI-BOUND AID ON U.S.-FLAG SHIPS
An amendment drafted by Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., to ensure that Iraqi-bound humanitarian aid sails on U.S.-flag ships was included in the Senate’s passage of an $80-billion supplemental appropriations bill.
“American resources should be shipped under American flags with American crews wherever and whenever possible,” Landrieu said in a statement April 4.
The so-called Landrieu amendment includes $7 billion in foreign aid, all of which must be transported on U.S.-flag ships. The House and Senate versions of the bill must still be reconciled before the President signs it into law.
