LAX develops security plan
The RAND Corp. recommends in a just completed study that Los Angeles International Airport establish permanent vehicle checkpoints to screen all vehicles, including commercial trucks, that enter the airport’s terminal.
The Santa Monica-based research group also advises airport officials to step up background checks and screening on airport personnel, enhance perimeter fencing and work with local and federal agencies in areas such as cargo inspections to mitigate threats beyond the airport’s control.
In the second phase of the project, RAND will recommend specific projects and technologies for security purposes.
