COMMITTEE CLEARS BILL TO OPEN U.S. CRUISE TRADES, GENERATE SHIPYARD WORK

Vagn Lehd Moeller, a senior vice president of A.P. Moller, and Peter Frederiksen, a liner management executive of Maersk Inc. in the U.S., have been named chief operating officer and chief commercial officer, respectively, of Maersk Sealand at group headquarters in Copenhagen.

They will share the responsibilities previously assumed by Jesper Kjaedegaard, senior vice president of Maersk Sealand, under a new management structure introduced at the Danish company.

Maersk Sealand is also restructuring some of its regional areas by creating a new unit responsible for West Asia and Central Asia, covering the geographical from Turkey to the Indian Subcontinent. Previously, these areas were covered by the European region or by the Asia/Mideast/Australia region.

Kjaedegaard has been named to head the new West Asia and Central Asia region.

The six regions within the revised Maersk Sealand organization are: North America, South America, Europe, Asia/Australia, Africa and West Asia/Central Asia.

The senior management changes coincide to the previously announced transfer of Tommy Thomsen, president of Maersk Inc., to Copenhagen in July, to become a partner of the A.P. Moller parent group.

His successor as the head of the North America region is Thomas T. Andersen.
