LNG fleet set to grow 50% by 2008

LNG World Shipping reported Friday it has taken eight years for the world’s liquefied natural gas fleet to double in size — from 100 to 200 vessels, after it took 34 years to reach 100.

And the pace of the fleet development is quickening, with analysts forecasting the fleet to number 300 by 2008. The LNG journal also said South Korea has pulled even with Japan as the chief builders of LNG vessels, with each having built 64 of the world’s fleet.
