Long Beach director tabs Coast Guard veteran for new deputy role

Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard Steinke said Friday he is recommending the appointment of retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Kevin Eldridge to the newly created position of deputy executive director and chief operating officer.

In the role Eldridge would be the port’s second-highest ranking executive. Steinke’s recommendation will go to the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners for a vote today.

“Kevin brings three decades of U.S. Coast Guard experience in a wide range of leadership, financial management, technical and operational positions,” Steinke said in a statement. “His background, with significant maritime leadership positions and relevant experience in key areas, makes him an excellent fit for our management team and the needs of our organization.”
