Longview sells 35 acres to lumber company

The Port of Longview has approved the sale of 35 acres of land to Simpson Timber Co.

The Washington state port said Simpson also has an option to buy another 25 acres.

Simpson, the largest lumber producer in Washington, may construct a sawmill on the property, pending a decision by the company’s board. The mill would have access to Longview’s new rail corridor and marine facilities.

The property being purchased is part of the 180-acre West Industrial Park property bought by the port from International Paper in 1996. During the past decade, Longview has improved the property by removing concrete foundations of lumber sheds, constructing a new rail line to serve the property, and improving the water, sewer and roads.
