Los Angeles inbound boxes up 8 percent in August
The number of loaded inbound containers at the port of Los Angeles, the largest North American container port, increased by 8 percent in August, to about 354,400 TEUs, from 327,500 TEUs in August 2002.
By contrast, the port of Los Angeles reported a 4 percent fall in loaded outbound boxes, to about 88,100 TEUs, from 91,400 TEUs.
The number of empty containers handled by the port soared by 12 percent in August, to about 208,500 TEUs.
Total boxes at the Californian port increased by 8 percent in August, to about 651,000 TEUs, and by 19 percent in the first eight months of the year, to 4.7 million TEUs.
The neighboring port of Long Beach has not yet reported its container statistics for the month of August.
August is the first month of this year’s peak shipping season in the transpacific trade.
