LOS ANGELES, LONG BEACH POST TEU GAINS FOR MARCH
Containerized cargo through the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach increased in March.
At the port of Los Angeles, volume increased 29.1 percent in March to 563,571 TEUs, compared to 436,565 TEUs in the same month of 2002.
The port loaded 293,532 inbound TEUs in March, a gain of 34.2 percent. Outbound volumes increased 15.6 percent to 107,152 TEUs.
The port handled 162,886 empty TEUs in March, a gain of 30.1 percent.
The Port of Long Beach, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, handled overall 354,530 TEUs in March, an increase of 3.2 percent.
Long Beach loaded 179,800 inbound TEUs in March, a 4.6 percent increase. Loaded outbound containers declined 7.2 percent to 81,542 TEUs.
Long Beach handled 93,188 empty TEUs in March, an increase of 11 percent.
