Lufthansa suspends fuel surcharge increase
Lufthansa Cargo said it has suspended automatic fuel surcharge increases for the next two weeks despite the rise in jet fuel costs in an effort to help shippers stabilize their costs.
Many airlines use Lufthansa Cargo’s Fuel Index is a basis to adjust their own fuel surcharges for cargo shipments.
Lufthansa said that although fuel prices had reached the threshold for another .30 euro (36 cents) increase, it would not pass on the charge to customers during the next two-week period in order to provide customers some stability for planning their costs. Lufthansa said it would review the situation again for the next surcharge period in two weeks.
