The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, which manages the Jawaharlal Nehru port facilities of Mumbai, India, has named the consortium of APM Terminals and Container Corp. of India Ltd. as the preferred bidder for the redevelopment of the port’s bulk terminal to a container terminal.

Under the license agreement, the consortium will convert the present bulk terminal, and operate and manage the resulting container facility for a period of 30 years. Located away from the old port of Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru is the second port complex of Mumbai.

“The developments will commence as soon as the license agreement has been concluded,” said APM Terminals, the port arm of the A.P. Moller-Maersk group.

The Danish port operator predicted that inauguration of the container terminal is expected 24 months later.

The terminal will have 712 meters of quay, 8 quay cranes and 52 hectares of container yard.
