Maersk Contractors takes delivery of drilling rig
Maersk Contractors, part of the A.P. Moller group, has taken delivery of a semi-submersible drilling rig in Azerbaijan.
The rig, named “Lider”, was constructed by Keppel FELS and the Caspian Shipyard Company. It is capable of drilling in depths from 75 to 1,000 metres of water.
The deck dimensions of the “Lider” are 63.5 metres in length, 64.5 metres wide, and 35 metres from the pontoons to the top of the deck. The deck load capacity is 4,000 tons and the rig has capacity for 130 people.
The “Lider” starts life with a three-year drilling contract in the Caspian Sea with the companies Exxon Azerbaijan Operating Company LLC and Chevron Overseas Petroleum Azerbaijan Ltd., partnered with SOCAR Oil Affiliate, ConocoPhillips (U.K.) Ltd. and Total Exploration and Production Azerbaijan.
