Maersk Distribution Services now part of Damco

Damco, the logistics arm of A.P. Moller – Maersk, said Maersk Distribution Services Inc. (MDSI) would be integrated into Damco.

Formerly known as Hudd Distribution Services, MDSI generates around $200 million in revenue per year in the United States and Canada, and employs more than 600 people. A warehousing and distribution company, it delivers cross-docking, transload, warehousing and inland transportation services to customers from 18 facilities in the major ocean North American ocean and rail gateways.

Damco said by integrating the two companies, customer sourcing from overseas would benefit from systematic integration between the international supply chain to the domestic distribution and enable postponed decision making for final allocation of cargo to each store.

'MDSI substantially enhances our offerings to the market and enables us to extend the scope of the services we offer to our valued customers” said Rolf Habben-Jansen, chief executive officer of Damco. With MDSI now part of the organization, Damco employs around 1,000 people and generates more than $500 million in revenue in North America.

Globally Damco has 10,500 employees, more than $2 billion in revenue and manages more than 2.3 million TEUs of ocean freight and supply chain management volumes, and more than 60,000 tons of air freight.
