Maersk Sealand adds Asia/Europe loop

Maersk Sealand will start a China/Europe container service mid-July, its fifth weekly container service in the Far East/Europe trade.

The additional loop, called “AE7,” will employ eight ships of 6,500-TEU capacities with a rotation of Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Yantian, Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas (Malaysia), Salalah (Oman), Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Salalah, Tanjung Pelepas and Shanghai.

A spokesman for Maersk Sealand said the Danish carrier is still considering the potential launch of an additional transpacific service this year. If confirmed, the additional Maersk Sealand will likely be a small peak-season service, the spokesman said.
