Maersk Sealand adds South Atlantic ports to Central America loops
Maersk Sealand is extending its existing services between Florida, Honduras and Guatemala to include calls at the U.S. South Atlantic ports of Charleston and Norfolk, effective mid-June.
The new South Atlantic Express service will replace the existing weekly Fashion Express 1 and Fashion Express 2 services which had previously only called in the United States at Miami and Port Everglades.
The change has been made to “alleviate the challenges associated with long haul trucking via the traditional Florida gateway,” Maersk Sealand said.
The SAE will commence June 11, using the two ships of approximately 900 TEUs that are currently deployed on the FEX 1 and FEX 2 loops.
The port rotation for the “SAE” will be Norfolk, Charleston, Port Everglades, Puerto Cortes, Santo Tomas de Castilla, Port Everglades and back to Norfolk.
