Maersk Sealand restricts fumigated containers for New Zealand
Maersk Sealand said Monday it will no longer accept containers moving from the United States to New Zealand under fumigation if the containers have been fumigated with any of the following substances:
* Discoid containing hydrocyanic acid.
* Gas containing 1000g/kg methyl bromide.
* Gas containing 980g/kg methyl bromide and 20g/kg chloropicrin.
* Gas containing 20g/kg phosphine.
* Pellets containing 570g/kg aluminum phosphide.
* Pellets containing 660g/kg magnesium phosphide.
The Danish mega-carrier said fumigated containers must be properly ventilated and the fumigation declared as complete prior to being placed on a vessel bound for New Zealand. Once ventilation is complete, fumigation placards and stickers must be removed at which point the container will move as non-hazardous cargo, Maersk Sealand said.
