MAERSK SEALAND, SAFMARINE TO RUN JOINT INDIA/MIDEAST/AFRICA LINK

Maersk Sealand and its sister company Safmarine Container Lines will operate a joint container service connecting the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East and East Africa.

Safmarine said that the move represents a further restructuring of its Indian Ocean service.

Effective from August, Maersk Sealand and Safmarine will provide a four-vessel string between Salalah and East Africa, with connections to Europe, Western Asia and Central Asia regions, Safmarine said. Safmarine will operate one of the four vessels in this service.

Salalah, the Middle East terminal operated by Maersk Sealand’s affiliated company APM Terminals, will be the central hub for the Indian Ocean service.

Safmarine said that the move to a joint service with Maersk Sealand will result in additional synergy and maximized capacity.
